Police shooting suspect, 24-year-old Dontae Morris was arrested Friday night, after a massive manhunt lasting for days.According to police, homicide detectives began negotiations with someone associated with Morris on Thursday.Over the next 30 hours, they continued talking with the unidentified person, eventually leading to Morris turning himself in at an undisclosed location in Tampa.Detectives said the individual will be entitled to the $100,000 reward offered for information leading to Morris' arrest.Morris is charged with the shooting of two Tampa police officers, Jeffrey Kocab and David Curtis, which occurred Tuesday morning.Officials said ballistic tests were used to determine that the same handgun used to kill officers Jeff Kocab and David Curtis was also used to kill Derek Anderson on May 18.More than 200 Tampa police officers worked around the clock for nearly four days to find Morris. In a briefing, Tampa police chief Jane Castor said she has never felt more relieved in her life than when she heard the news that Morris had been arrested."I can't tell you how relieved the men and women of the Tampa Police Department are," Castor said. "It has brought us a sense of closure and it gives a level of relief to this community."Castor then went on to thank all who participated in the manhunt for Morris including the Tampa Police Department, all other Bay area police departments, and the general public.Tampa mayor Pam Iorio also spoke at the briefing about her relief of arresting Morris before the joint funeral for the officers that is being held Saturday morning in Lutz."It is so important to bring closure to this before the funeral," Iorio said. Also under arrest is 22-year-old Cortnee Brantley. She is charged with witnessing a felony and not reporting it, which is a federal crime.Investigators believe Brantley was driving the car when Morris allegedly shot both of the officers. She was previously released after questioning because investigators believed that she would lead them to Morris.Early Saturday morning, Tampa police also announced the arrest of Morris' brother, 21-year-old Dwayne Daniel Callaway.Investigators said he is charged with two counts of domestic violence battery, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, with additional charges pending.According to reports, detectives used physical and electronic surveillance to determine Callaway's whereabouts, and arrested him at 1:30 a.m. at the Motel 6 located at 333 East Fowler Avenue.Castor said that after almost four full days of searching for Morris, she's sure that he had help hiding from authorities along the way. She said that whoever has helped Morris will be appropriately charged."I am convinced that he had individuals who were helping him," Castor said. "He could not stay in this community with the amount of pressure we were putting on him and not be found. There is no way he did not have assistance."Police say Morris may be responsible for three other murders, and that he was booked into the Orient Road Jail.According to Morris' arrest report, he is charged with three counts of first-degree murder, and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.Morris was denied bond Saturday morning during his first appearance before a judge.
